made for soldier's son-in-law amos moyer of reading. soldier died 7 april
1837 leaving no widow and was living with this son-in-law whose wife was not
named.

CONRAD GEIST

Capt. Conrad Geist was born 1744 in Frederick Twp., Mont., PA. He died in 1812 in Cumru Twp., Berks county, PA.

Conrad Geist was a Captain in the Berks County Militia throughout the Revolutionary War. He had various commands during the conflict, but the PA State Archives make reference to 2;
On page 303 of Volume XIV is given the payroll of a detachment of the Sixth Battalion, Pennsylvania Militia, under Captain Conrad Geist detaled to guard British prisoners of war confined in the jail in Reading, that attempted to break out and afterwards transferred. This was in 1776. In 1777 he commanded the 1st Company, 4th Battalion, Berks County Militia. After the war these men were having trouble being paid for their services, and they along with Conrad signed a petition. This Company is listed below:

Deed between Jacob Petry and Joseph Alter and Balser Smith

This indenture made the twenty-second Day of March in the year of our lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty-four between Jacob Petry of the Borough of Reading, in the County of Berks, in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, weaver, and Mary his wife of the one part and Joseph Alter, cheiner (?) and Balser Smith, cheiner, both of the same place of the other part. Witnesseth that the said Jacob Petry and Mary his wife, for and in consideration of the sum of eight pounds five shillings in specie to them well and truly in hand paid by the said Joseph Alter and Balser Smith at and before the ensealing and delivery thereof they do hereby acknowledge and thereof do acquit and forever discharge the said Joseph Alter and Balser Smith their executors and administrators by these presents have granted, bargained, sold, aliened, enfeoffed, released and confirmed and by these presents do grant, bargain, sell, alien, enfeoff, release and confirm unto them the said Joseph Alter and Balser Smith as tenants in common and not as joint tenants all that lot, piece or parcel of ground in said Borough and marked in the general plan of out lots thereof numbered sixty-three bound as followeth, viz.--On the north by a twenty five feet lane called Lardner's Lane, on the west by the lot marked in said plan No. 62, on the south by lot no. 48 and on the east by lot marked No. 64 being in breadth twenty perches and in length forty perches and containing five acres [It being the same lot which Richard Kochley and Hannah his wife by indenture bearing date the 7th day of July 1752 under the yearly ground rent of fifteen shillings sterling granted unto George Albert in fee who being so thereof seized died leaving these two children to wit, George and Eve to whom the same descended which George Albert and Juliana his wife and Peter Withington and Eve his wife the daughter of said George Albert deceased by indenture bearing date the 15th day of November 1760 unto Peter Breght who with Catherine his wife granted the same by indenture bearing date the 9th day of May 1781, granted the same unto Martha Wenrich who being so thereof seized as in fee died intestate leaving issue the above named Jacob Petery her only son and heir at law to whom the same descended. Together with all and singular the fences, improvements woods, watercourses, rights, liberties, privileges, hereditaments and appurtenances whatsoever thereunto belonging or in any wise appertaining and the reversions and remainders, rents, issues and profits thereof and also all the estate, right, title, interest, property, claim and demands whatsoever of them the said Jacob Petry and Mary his wife of, in, to or out of the same or any part or parcel thereof. To have and to hold the said out lot of ground No. 63 above described hereditaments and premises thereby granted or mentioned or intended so to be with the appurtenances to the said Joseph Alter and Balser Smith as tenants in Common and not as joint tenants their heirs and assigns to the only proper use and behoof of them the said Joseph Alter and Balser Smith their heirs and assigns forever subject to the payment of the above mentioned yearly ground rent now due or hereafter to become due and payable for the same to the chief Lord (?) or Lord (?) of the fee thereof and the said Jacob Petry doth covenant, promise, grant and agree to and with the said Joseph Alter and Balser Smith their heirs and assigns by these presents that he the said Jacob Petry and his heirs the above described outlot No. 63 hereditaments and premises hereby granted with the appurtenances unto the said Joseph Alter and Balser Smith their heirs against him the said Jacob Petry and his heirs against all and every other person or persons whomsoever lawfully claiming or to claim by, from or under him, them, or any of them shall and will warrant and forever defend by these presents. In witness whereof said parties to these presents have interchangeably set their hands and seals hereunto. Dated the day and year first above written.

Witness my hand and seal the day and year aforesaid.

Revolutionary War survivors,—The following survivors of the Revolution, who were residents of Reading, are presented in this connection, though not strictly a part of this period.
In 1823 there were thirty-nine survivors. They held a public meeting on the 19th of August, of that year, for the purpose of endorsing Andrew Gregg as a candidate for Governor of the State. Peter Nagle was chairman of the meeting and Michael Mafeira secretary. Appropriate resolutiona were adopted,—

This indenture made the twenty sixth day of October in the Year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and eighteen between Jacob Petre of the Borough of Reading, County of Berks and State of Pennsylvania, weaver, and Anna Maria, his wife of the one part, and John G. Repplier of the same place of the other part.
Witnesseth, that the said Jacob Petre and Anna Marie his wife for and in consideration of the sum of Five hundred dollars lawful money of the state of Pennsylvania, to them in hand well and truly paid by the said John G. Repplier at and before the ensealing and delivery hereof, the receipt whereof they do hereby acknowledge, and thereof do acquit and forever discharge the said John G. Repplier his heirs, executors and Administrators by these presents have granted, bargained, sold, aliened, enfeoffed, released and confirmed and by these presents doth grant bargain, sell, alien, enfeoff, release and confirm unto the said John George Repplier and to his heirs and assigns, all that certain lot of ground situate on the east side of Queen street in the Borough of Reading aforesaid marked in the general plan thereof number two hundred and sixty-eight bounded and described as follows, to wit, Westward by Queen street, northward by lot no. 265, eastward by a twenty feet alley, southward by lot no. 269. Containing in breath [sic] north and south sixty feet and in length east and west two hundred and thirty feet. It being the same which the administrators of Simon Shericker deceased by their attorney James Logan by indenture under his hand and seal dated the twentieth day of August A.D. 1790 for the consideration therein mentioned did grant and confirm unto Jacob Bower Esquire and to his heirs and assigns forever, whereby his assignment written on the back of the above recited indenture dated the thirtieth day of September A.D. 1790 for the consideration therein mentioned did grant and confirm unto Conrad Fesig and to his heirs and assigns forever who by an indenture dated the 6th day of June A.D. 1815 for the consideration therein mentioned did grant and confirm unto the said Jacob Petre (party hereto) and to his heirs and assigns forever. As, in and by said recited indenture and assignment relation thereunto had appear &c.
Together also with all and singular the houses, out-houses, barns, stables, gardens, orchards, meadows, fields, fences, ways, woods, waters, water-courses, rights, liberties, privileges, hereditaments and appurtenances whatsoever thereunto belonging or in any wise appertaining.
And the reversions and remainders, rents, issues and profits thereof, and also all the estate, right, title, interest, use, trust, property, possession, claim and demand whatsoever of them the said Jacob Petre and Anna Maria his wife in law or equity, or otherwise howsoever of, in, to or out of the same.
To have and to hold the said lot of ground no. 268, hereditaments and premises hereby granted and released or mentioned or intended so to be, with the appurtenances, unto the said Jno. G. Repplier, his heirs and assigns: To the only proper use and behoof of him the said Jno. G. Repplier his heirs and assigns forever subject to the payment of the yearly ground rent due and becoming due thereon. And the said Jacob Petre for himself his heirs executors and administrators doth covenant, promise, grant and agree to and with the said Jno. G. Repplier, his heirs and assigns, by these presents: That he the said Jacob Petre and his heirs, the said above mentioned and described lot of ground No. 268, hereditaments and premises hereby granted and released, or mentioned, or intended so to be, with the appurtenances, unto the said Jno. G. Repplier his heirs and assigns against him the said Jacob Petre, and his heirs and against all and every person and persons whomsoever lawfully claiming, or to claim the same, or any part or parcel thereof by from or under him, them or any of them shall and will warrant and forever defend by these presents.
In witness whereof, the said parties to these presents have hereunto interchangeably set their hands and seals, dated the day and year first above written.

Be it remembered, that on the twenty-sixth day of October Anno Domini, 1818 before me, William Schoener Esquire, one of the Justices of the Peace of the said county, personally came the above named Jacob Petre and Anna Maria his wife and acknowledged the above indenture to be their act and deed, and desired that the same might be recorded as such, according to law: The said Anna Maria being of full age, by me in due form of law, examined separate and apart from her said husband and the full contents of the above deed being by me first made know to her and she the said Anna Maria upon such separate examination as aforesaid, declared that she did voluntarily, and of her own free will and accord seal, and as her act and deed, deliver the said deed, without any coercion or compulsion of her said husband. In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal, the day and year above written.
