Notes for John Roberts Rapp
Obituary – Public Spirit, April 4, 1929
John Rapp, long a resident of the Abington section, died Wednesday morning on the farm he purchased about a year ago near Wrightstown, Bucks County. Deceased had suffered a stroke of apoplexy several months ago, from which he never recovered. Heart disease and other complications hastened his death. He was sixty-two years old and until a few years ago was engaged as a well driller being widely known as one of the most skillful in this occupation. Before moving to his late residence, he lived for many years on Decatur avenue east of the Old York road near Abington. He was a member of the Jenkintown Baptist Church. Mr. Rapp is survived by his wife, Minerva Metzger, four sons, Ralph, George, Robert and Albert, and five daughters, Mrs. Harry Seiple, Mrs. Joseph Thomas, Mrs. W. J. Cloud, and Misses Agnes and Mary Rapp. A sister, Mrs. Elizabeth R. Mortis, of Hatboro, and a brother, William R. Rapp, of Willow Grove, also survive. Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at three o'clock in the Hatboro Cemetery Chapel with interment in the adjoining grounds.

Notes for Minerva (Spouse 1)

From Carole Smith:
There is a very interesting side story about Minerva.  She had an older brother named Penrose.  I don't know what age they were when their parents died and left them orphans, but a family took them in and put them to work almost as slaves, and treated them badly.  Food left uneaten was saved and re-served even if it was moldy.  So when Penrose got old enough to leave, age 16 or 17, he ran off to see if he could make his fortune digging for gold in the Yukon.  Minerva got one or two letters then never heard from or of him since.
