Notes from the Darlington Family History book:
He served an apprenticeship as a machinist in Carnbrea railway shops, Cornwall; came to America in 1857 and resided principally in Reading, PA. From 1863 to 1865 he was superintendant of Reading Bolt and Nut Works for 17 years; of the Pennsylvania Bolt and Nut Works, Lebanon, PA two years and sine then has lived at Auburn, PA. He designed considerable machinery used in bolt and nut making; would never accept office, though frequently urged to do so.
